Cat Forest Products upgrades innovative bunching saw |

Cat Forest
Products has made enhancements to the Prentice SH-50 bunching saw to
increase performance, durability and reliability and to respond to
customer requests for design refinements.
Introduced two years ago,
the saw features the innovative Strait Grip bunching finger (patent
pending) that tucks trees into the accumulating pocket, keeping the
tops together and creating tight bunches. Ideal for first and second
thinnings, this innovative bunching technology allows the operator to
cut, bunch and control more wood before piling. Other saw designs don’t
keep the treetops together, forcing the operator to drop the load
before reaching full capacity.
Recent enhancements improve
performance and lower operating costs. The discharge chute has been
enlarged 130% to quickly exhaust chips and debris from the saw housing.
Additional design changes to the saw housing shed debris from the top
of the disc and safely direct it toward the ground to improve saw
performance, eliminate plugging and greatly reduce wear.
Hydraulic
hoses have been upsized and rerouted to improve reliability. A new
bulkhead holds the bunching finger hoses neatly in place and reduces
wear. The bulkhead is removable allowing easy access to hoses when
servicing is required.
From front to back, all guards that protect
hoses and the saw motor have been beefed up to prevent debris build-up
and damage from high capacity bunching. Improvements include better
bolt retention and reinforced guard supports.
The Prentice SH-50
bunching saw is available for the Cat 553, Cat 563, Prentice 2470 and
Prentice 2570 wheel feller bunchers. When installed on the larger
carriers, Cat 563 or Prentice 2570, the full capacity of this
attachment can maximize production in both thinning and clear cutting
applications. The SH-50 can bunch 13-15 6-in. diameter trees or 25-27
4-in. diameter trees.
